Audacity is a free software used for recording and editing audio. Audacity’s simple and standard interface makes recording and editing files easy. Users may import, cut, copy, paste and make additional changes to an audio file. Audacity allows users to save their project, which includes any edits they have made to their audio file for later editing. Users may also export their finished project to a .wav or .mp3 format.

Downloading Audacity

Audacity is available for Mac’s, PC’s and Linux as a free download. After accessing the downloads page and choosing your operating system, you will also have the chance to download the LAME MP3 encoder. The Lame encoder allows you to export to a .mp3 format. The .mp3 file is a compressed audio format that is recommended when uploading to iTunes U, Blackboard and the web.
