Teaching Tools
A list of tools ECIT currently supports in addition to resources where you can find out more about how these tools can be utilized in teaching are included on this page. ECIT offers several training sessions during the semester on the use of these tools, in addition to one on one appointments (via email request). Audacity is a free software used for recording and editing audio. Audacity’s simple and standard interface makes recording and editing files easy. Users may import, cut, copy, paste and make additional changes to an audio file.
Blackboard is Emory's central online course and content management system. Documents, audio and video files, and animation can all be incorporated into an online class structure and the material can be offered via the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Blackboard offers web authoring tools, discussion boards, internal messaging, test and survey tools, and user tracking.
A blog (or weblog) is an online journal with entries that are written in chronological order. Most blogs are updated regularly, often daily, providing information that is both timely and relevant. Blog entries can be any combination of text, images, video or other data.
Camtasia Studio is a screen capture program that allows a user to create, edit and enhance raining tutorials. Camtasia can be used for more than a screen capture software. It also features the capability of voice narration, recording PowerPoint’s and much more.
iMovie
iMovie is a video editing software application created by Apple. iMovie allows users to import, edit and produce videos/podcast.
A Podcast is something like a radio show. It's programming you can download and listen to with your computer directly from a website. What makes a podcast special is the fact you can also "subscribe" to a it - as you would a magazine - and have it downloaded to your computer automatically each time a new episode is released. With the right software, your podcast subscription will sync with your MP3 player (an iPod or other digital music player) and you can listen to it wherever you want at your convenience.
Personal Response System, PRS, is a technology that allows faculty to gain immediate feedback from students during class. It is especially useful in large classrooms where the traditional raising of hands is impractical. It also allows all students to have an equal voice in classroom activities.
Wimba is a set of online voice recording tools available within Blackboard. To record your voice all you need is a web browser, a Blackboard course, and a microphone connected to your computer.
