The Emory Summer Chinese Program

Summer 2008 Brochure for Study Abroad in China!

Emory Summer Program in China May 29 - July 9, 2008

Explore Beijing, China’s fascinating capital and the site of 2008 Olympics Games. The program collaborates with the prestigious Beijing Normal University, offering a course in Chinese language at all levels and a course on China’s last emperors taught in the classroom and on site at the imperial precincts.   Tracing the footsteps of the Manchu rulers, Chn 375R will provide an introduction to key features of traditional Chinese society, culture and the arts. Taught by Emory professors, this course offers a unique opportunity to study traditional China at original locations.

No knowledge of Mandarin Chinese is required, as beginner students learn practical Mandarin Chinese. Special tutorials will be arranged for heritage speakers of Chinese and for students with two or more years of Chinese.

Participants tour the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, and the Forbidden City, and see acrobatic and martial arts performances. In addition to excursions to numerous cultural sites in Beijing, a visit to the former imperial palaces in Chengde, the historic city of Pingyao, and a two-day trip to Shandong, including Mount Taishan are planned.
